Growing up with two brothers on England’s south coast, Ben’s early years were shaped by competition, strategy, and a love for sports. His sharp competitive edge was evident, whether it was on the football pitch, tennis court, or mountain slopes. This now powers his approach to venture capital.
Following a few years in investment banking—advising growth-stage software and deeptech companies on M&A and financing transactions—Ben joined Oxx in the summer of 2024, a move inspired by his deepening interest in next-generation technology and will to work more closely with founders to them turn bold visions into reality.
I quickly developed a deep curiosity for next-gen software and a genuine passion for supporting ambitious founders. Helping them bring their ideas to life and scale them is what truly excites me.
Transitioning from a transaction-led role to one centred on building long-term value with scale-ups was a natural step for Ben. His affinity for numbers is a key asset when building business plans and professionalising dashboards with founders—a process where his “unashamed love for Excel” sometimes takes centre stage.
Efficiency, process, and financial acumen from my banking days have proven invaluable in the fast-paced world of VC. With some of our portfolio companies approaching exits, I’m eager to leverage my transactional expertise to fine-tune Oxx’s exit strategies.
Ben thrives in the fast-paced world of scale-up investing, particularly at this transformative juncture for AI-driven SaaS. Getting to work together with colleagues on multiple investment cases at any given time is both hectic and rewarding at the same time, but it’s a role Ben thoroughly enjoys. In terms of sectors, he is especially interested in sectors like manufacturing, construction, and legal, where AI workflows have the potential to disrupt entrenched practices and unlock transformative value in traditionally stagnant industries.
Supporting founders building transformative AI solutions that redefine the technology landscape in traditionally slow-to-digitalise industries is what excites me the most.
Outside of work, it’s no surprise that sports still play a major role in Ben’s life, picking up a racquet or spending time on a football pitch with friends every chance he gets. An ever-optimistic AFC Bournemouth supporter, he tries to catch a game whenever he can. The passion for sports extends beyond “his” club too, when he recently spent time at the Stockholm office he even caught a game in a lower division of Swedish football in the blistering cold November weather – if that’s not commitment, then what is?
