Reducing complexity by digitising customer journeys: A conversation with Lightico CEO Zviki Ben-Ishay

Our lives are full of processes that should be simple but rarely are. Often, when applying for a loan, upgrading a mobile plan, or completing paperwork at the bank, you’re put through a Kafkaesque process before you finally get what you want or need. For consumers, these moments are frustrating and for enterprises, they are costly, slow, and compliance-heavy.

Lightico, co-founded by Zviki Ben-Ishay, Justin Josh, and Omri Braun, was built to eliminate that friction. Its digital completion platform enables enterprises to replace paper-heavy, manual workflows with simple, no-code digital experiences. Instead of spending 10 months building a new customer process, companies can now do it in 10 minutes. And end-consumers can easily complete their loan applications without tearing their hair out in the process.

Today, Lightico works with leading enterprises across four continents, serving industries such as automotive lending, telecommunications, and financial services. Customers use Lightico to process millions of transactions annually, achieving compliance rates of up to 98%, improving NPS, and delivering seamless experiences that keep consumers (and agents) loyal.

We spoke with CEO Zviki Ben-Ishay about Lightico’s journey, the lessons learned along the way, and what it takes to build a global SaaS company from servers in a living room to powering digital infrastructure worldwide.

Q&A with Zviki Ben-Ishay

What does Lightico do, and why does it matter?

Lightico is a digital completion platform. It’s a software solution designed to automate and streamline customer or operational workflows, enabling users to efficiently finish all necessary tasks (including signing documents, filling forms, ID verification, and payment) digitally within a single interactive session.

Traditionally, this has been very complex and resource-intensive. At Lightico we help enterprises build customer-facing processes with a no-code experience, reducing the time it takes to deliver a new process from 10 months to just 10 minutes. We call it solving “digital paralysis.” Many companies have already digitised the easy parts of their operations, but they reach a point where legacy systems and compliance make it difficult to move further. That’s where Lightico comes in.

Can you share any examples?

Sure. Let’s talk about auto lending. One of the largest captive auto lenders in the United States uses Lightico to process hundreds of thousands of car loans per year. What used to require stacks of paper and days of waiting now happens seamlessly on a smartphone. In the UK, major telecoms rely on us to handle everything from customer onboarding to device upgrades in a compliant way.

The results are measurable. Among our customers, we’ve seen compliance rates jump from around 60% to 98% when processes are digitised with Lightico. Customer satisfaction scores rise, agents spend less time chasing paperwork, and enterprises reduce costs. That’s the real value: faster, compliant, customer-friendly processes that improve both top line and bottom line.

How did Lightico get started?

The story of Lightico actually begins as an MBA project. One of my co-founders, Omri, and I decided to treat the project as if it were a real company, and within six months, we had paying customers, a live product, and a small team.

The first version was extremely scrappy. Our CTO and third co-founder, Justin, literally ran the servers in his living room. From there, we have grown to multiple global data centres and enterprise-grade infrastructure. We bootstrapped in the beginning, and growth wasn’t linear. We had to pivot, refine the product, and push through tough moments. But those early years taught us resilience and gave us the conviction that what we were building truly mattered.

What role have partnerships played in the journey?

Partnerships have been absolutely critical for us. What I value most in a partner is someone who doesn’t just write a cheque and disappear. The best partners are hands-on, direct, and involved when it matters. With Oxx, we’ve had that. They’ve helped us refine our business plan, run deep analyses on how much to invest in engineering, and even supported us in M&A. When we pursued an acquisition, they were right there with us, providing connections, data analysis, and real commitment.

The way I often describe it is: some investors cheer from the sidelines, others put on the jersey and go on the pitch with us. Bringing on investors that are willing to get operational makes a huge difference when you’re scaling at speed.

How do you approach culture and building the team?

In the early days, most of our team were personal acquaintances. We needed people we could trust, who would put in the same level of commitment. As we scaled, we became much more precise in hiring. We see it not only as a question of talent, but also cultural fit. I think that’s why our Glassdoor rating is high and employee churn is low.

One of the things I’m proudest of is our approach to promoting from within. If someone invests the time and effort, and shows the ability to grow, we want to give them the opportunity. That’s why many of our executives today started in more junior roles at Lightico. Some people have even gone on to found their own companies, which is one of the most rewarding things as a founder.

Even as we’ve grown into a global business with teams in multiple regions, we’ve worked hard to keep that closeness with the team – trust, accountability, and care for each other’s success.

What lessons have you learned along the way?

There are quite a few.

First: don’t delay fundraising. Raise when the market is good, not just when you think you need the money. We learned that lesson the hard way during COVID. Timing matters, and you can’t always predict the future.

Second: more people doesn’t equal faster growth. At one stage we made the mistake of hiring aggressively before we had repeatable processes in place. All we did was scale the problem. If you don’t have clear KPIs and a proven motion, adding headcount just creates more complexity.

Third: focus on customer success. Our role is not just to deliver software, but to help customers achieve outcomes. That’s why we send teams onsite to analyse processes, build ROI cases, and make sure the implementation succeeds. When you treat customers as partners rather than just accounts, the relationship becomes much stronger.

Finally: be resilient. The journey isn’t linear. We’ve faced pivots, difficult fundraising environments, and market uncertainty. What got us through was grit, creativity, and the willingness to keep pushing forward.

What’s next for Lightico?

The vision for Lightico has always been about making complex processes simple. That’s not going away, if anything, it’s becoming more critical. Enterprises are under pressure to digitise faster, comply with increasing regulation, and deliver seamless customer experiences.

I’m excited by the role Lightico can play as the digital completion platform of choice. We’ve shown we can help enterprises cut process times from months to minutes, increase compliance, and delight customers. Now it’s about scaling that impact further, across more industries and geographies.

Key lessons & learnings from Lightico’s journey

  • Simplify complexity: customer processes should take minutes, not months.
  • Bootstrap grit: resilience and creativity carry you through the hardest phases.
  • Choose the right partners for you: find investors and advisors who roll up their sleeves and get on the pitch with you.
  • Focus on building the right team: hire carefully, promote internally, and build trust.
  • Fundraise when you can: timing matters more than perfect conditions.
  • Scale with discipline: growth requires repeatable processes and KPIs.

Customer success is everything: when customers succeed, so does your company.
