We’re thrilled to announce our investment as a lead in Moments Lab’s oversubscribed $24 million funding round, joined by Orange Ventures, Kadmos Capital and existing investors Elaia and Supernova. Moments Lab is transforming how we extract information and discover the perfect moments in video through their category-defining multimodal AI.
Imagine you have hours of video footage and need to find a particular scene or highlight. In traditional video production, there are entire teams of people who spend hours watching footage and tagging key moments with labels like “fight,” “funny,” or “emotional.” (As an example, just think about the army of people required to review the 24/7 footage from Love Island and manually tag scenes as ‘kiss’, ‘bickering’, ‘bikini’ or “sunglasses”). It’s tedious work, and worse, a lot of those tags get lost once the footage moves into post-production. Editors often have to start over, digging through hours of video just to find one specific scene – if they eventually manage to find it.

Finding the right moments quickly is more important than ever because that same footage doesn’t just live in one place anymore. It’s reused and repackaged for YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, and other platforms – each with its own format, length, and audience. That means teams need to pull key scenes fast and often. Moments Lab comes to the rescue. Its category-defining multimodal AI understands video like a human and enables semantic search, similar to what you’d expect from Google or ChatGPT. You can type something like “Obama talking about human rights” and instantly get the exact scene, along with a summary, shot descriptions, the people featured, and more. No more scrubbing through hours of footage, you just search, click, and use. Want to create a short video from a basketball player’s career highlights? No problem. Moments Lab can even do the initial storylining and rough cut for you.
Why Now?
As you can see, we’re at an inflection point in how video is produced, managed, and monetised.
First, the industry-wide shift from on-premise systems to cloud-native infrastructure is unlocking new possibilities for speed, scalability, and collaboration. Organisations that once relied on legacy workflows are now embracing cloud-based tools that support real-time content processing and distributed teams. Moments Lab is tailor-made for this world: built in the cloud, built for scale, and built to integrate.
Second, the way video content is used has fundamentally changed. A single event or piece of footage is no longer edited once and published to a single destination. It’s now sliced, localised, subtitled, and distributed across a growing number of platforms (as mentioned, TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, OTT apps, and beyond). This shift has made ‘time to market’ more critical than ever. The value of video is increasingly tied to how fast it can move from lens to audience.
At the same time, AI is transforming how we think about content. The key is making it evergreen. Media that was once considered “archive” is now being reimagined, resurfaced, and repurposed. In fact, the word archive is becoming obsolete in modern media operations. Traditional solutions simply weren’t built to handle the scale, speed, and semantic depth required to tap into the value locked in unstructured video files. Today, every piece of content is a living asset, rich with untapped potential value.
More specifically, multimodal AI – models that can understand and synthesise visual, audio, and textual signals – makes it possible to treat video like data. And in this new reality, Moments Lab is the company unlocking this capability at scale.
By automating much of the video creation and collaboration workflow (from ingestion and indexing to discovery, editing, and sharing) Moments Lab empowers teams to move faster, create more, and extract more value from every frame of footage.
So, why Moments Lab?
There’s no question this is an interesting space, but why Moments Lab? Moments Lab offers a suite of cutting-edge products designed to serve a well-defined customer base’s core business needs. Media, broadcasters, news and sports companies use Moments Lab’s cloud-based platform to
- Centralise live and existing content
- Enable instant content discovery
- Streamline video management, editing, and collaboration
- Distribute and monetise both live and existing assets
At the core of Moments Lab’s solution is MXT – their proprietary multimodal AI engine. MXT understands video like a human editor – but works at machine speed, while delivering detailed, time-coded metadata with unmatched semantic precision. MXT-2, the latest MXT model Moments Lab released, surpasses Google Research’s Vid2Seq by 47% in video sequencing tasks (source).
With Moments Lab, what used to take hours to days to edit an hour long video now takes a few minutes.
From our perspective, what makes this even more exciting is that Moments Lab’s AI isn’t just smart, it’s deployable. The platform is built to integrate natively into the workflows of broadcasters, rights holders, and creative teams. Whether you’re using Adobe Premier Pro or Blackbird for editing, AWS or LucidLink for storage, Digiteka or YouTube for distribution, Moments Lab seamlessly integrates into your ways of working.
If you just have one video to analyse, you might be able to use something like Google or Amazon’s basic video indexing tools. But when you’re dealing with hundreds of thousands of hours of footage, it’s a whole different story. Those tools don’t scale easily. You’d need to build internal workflows, spin up infrastructure, manage data pipelines, and put teams in place just to keep everything running. It’s not just a one-time setup, it’s an ongoing effort to maintain and update the whole system. And pretty quickly, the costs, both in terms of time and money, start to spiral. Moments Lab was built specifically for that scale, so you don’t have to reinvent the wheel.
Moments Lab’s clients across the US, Europe, the Middle East, and South America are already seeing the value of faster video workflows, richer content discovery, and expanded monetisation opportunities. In our conversations with some of these clients, they specifically called out Moments Lab’s ability to stay in tune with their tone of voice and artistic style whilst auto-generating summaries, titles, or rough cuts – significantly accelerating time to value for their content without compromising authenticity.
With the release of MXT’s public API, the technology is now even more accessible for developers and organisations to build on.
Beyond the technology, we are deeply impressed by Philippe and Fred who have built a world-class AI engine and surrounded it with the kind of product DNA and customer empathy that gives them a serious edge. They embody the qualities we look for in entrepreneurs – deep technical knowledge and understanding of customer needs and the industry they operate in better than anyone else, a long term product vision and the pragmatism needed for execution excellence.
The stage Moments Lab is at also makes the timing of this partnership perfect. Moments Lab has clear product-market fit, strong market pull – particularly from the US – and an expanding global presence. This is exactly where Oxx likes to step in: partnering with companies that are built on solid foundations and ready to scale with focus, not hype.
From day one, Oxx felt like the perfect match. Their sharp go-to-market expertise and data-driven mindset are exactly what we need to scale Moments Lab to the next level. Having a partner that combines strategic clarity with such a strong personal fit gives us huge confidence for what’s ahead. We’re excited to reach bold, impactful milestones together.
